Our Mission

When I started Offroad NC over two years ago, I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into.  I had been part of the offroad community for a little over a decade at that time and a general outdoorsman for about twice that.  I wanted to create an online environment where people in the area could learn about the opportunities available in this great state of ours but I wasn’t sure what that meant – should I start a forum?  Should I focus solely on social media?  Should I start a new offroad club?  The questions were endless and my focus wasn’t yet defined.

Fast forward to current day and Offroad NC has grown like I would have never imagined.  We have built a strong online presence, a solid reputation within the community, and we have been blessed with the support of some of the industry’s finest companies as sponsors.  Further, and perhaps most importantly, our mission has become clear – above all, we are an outreach function.

Legal Wheeling in North Carolina

Nationally, our sport has come under fire in recent years as irresponsible off-roaders have cast a bad name on OHV use from such actions as trespassing and the physical destruction of property.  These actions are dangerous not only to the participants but also to the future of OHV activity as a whole.  What has resulted is tightened regulations and even closure of our already limited OHV areas.

Groups such as Tread Lightly and the Blue Ribbon Coalition have done a great job of teaching and promoting responsible OHV use and they work endlessly to keep our OHV areas open to the public.  As purveyors of the sport, we at Offroad NC want to ensure that the future generations of North Carolinians get to share in our wonderful off-road experiences and hopefully have even more areas where they can legally and responsibly enjoy their off-road vehicles.  Below we have assembled a list of legal wheeling locations here in North Carolina.  I believe the list is fairly comprehensive but if there are any areas that we missed feel free to email us and we will add them in.

It’s that time of year again!  Time to put up the tree, hang the stockings, and get out the bourbon for that glass of eggnog you just poured.  As Clark Griswold so eloquently stated, “The most enduring traditions of the season are best enjoyed in the warm embrace of kith and kin.”  You should take this time to enjoy your family, not worry about what to get them!  Sit back and relax, because we have assembled a list of everything the offroader/overlander in your life needs.

Product Spotlight: Airflow Snorkel

A proper overland vehicle is built not for what you plan on encountering but for what you did not plan on.  Things happen – tires go flat, parts break, ledges give way – you get the point.  What defines us is not the gear that we bring but how we utilize that gear to respond to the obstacles that arise on our journeys.  Knowing that things happen, however, we must outfit our rigs with items to mitigate the risks – both the known and unknown.

Product Spotlight: Tembo Tusk Skottle

Head to your local camping store and surely you will be greeted by a multitude of different camp cooking devices: rapid boilers, folding stoves, grills, ovens, even some that will fit inside the pocket of your jacket!  What if I told you, however, that the best camp cooking device (for the overlander) wasn’t there?  What if there was one cooking product that could do it all?  Pizzas, fajitas, burgers, steaks, eggs, bacon…all without the need of pots and pans!  Well, that product actually does exist, and it is called the Tembo Tusk Skottle.

Light Up the Night

Our Jeeps are not just a vehicle – they are a tool.  They open up doors for us in ways that we never thought possible.  They are the ultimate exploration machines.  But one huge flaw in the Jeep as it comes is the lighting or, rather, the lack thereof.  Night exploration can easily take a wrong turn when you can’t see what is ahead of you.  In this article I walk through the installation of a set of Quadratec Stealth LED Headlights in our 2014 JK and provide my evaluation of the product.
